It's a persistent myth that the pyramids were built by slaves when historical evidence now shows that the whole of Egyptian society was mobilized into building those monuments. So with his pyramid example he's actually wrong and it wasn't human suffering but human cooperation which got things done. Which I suppose is a little bit heart warming when you think about it.
But what about how a large portion of Egyptian society were lower class and would be seen similarly as slaves by the standards of today? Many citizens would be forced to build those monuments, and many of those citizens died. You can be sure that a large portion of them were children and teenagers.
Yeah, that's exactly why they built secret escape passages in the pyramids. No, wait, it was because they didn't want to die for the fucking pharaoh. And don't confuse happily with no other choice.
